Don't you sometimes wonder what it takes to make people happy? After strugggling for years, Coach Ric Majerus has turned around the program and assembled a wonderful basketball team. They play defense, they are unselfish, they have outside shooters, they win. Why don't some people, including the pollsters like them?  Well....they don't race up and down the court and shoot in 7 seconds, they don't perform flashy dunks or alley-oops, they don't pound their chest after a basket. They are a good, maybe a very good college team that moves without the ball, sets screens, helps on defense, provide good spacing for each other. I say...let's enjoy the Billikens !

Speaking of basketball...what about this tif in the NBA. Some unknown, Asian player starts grabbing headlines with good shooting and good passing after sitting silently on bench and he gets ripped! It sure smacked of jealousy to me. Must you be a 1st round pick, an All-American, a High School Top Recruit to land in the inner circle of the NBA? It does seem unusal....as a matter of fact, it is unusual...to have a Harvard Asian grad competing well in the NBA. Good for him..it's Lin-tastic to me!

If you missed it...what an incredible rally by Webster Groves(22-4) on Friday night. Behind 52-40 to a sound Parkway Central team (15-10), WG erupted for 30 points in the 4th quarter to snatch this one out of the L column and stick it into the W column with a 70-63 win. You have to be able to pressure the ball, score and have a winning attitude to pull out this type of win. Coach Jay Blossom hits his district on a real high.  Prepcasts will have the Champioship and Semifinal Games of the WG District from SLUH. (See schedule page).

I'm sticking out my neck now as I choose the Boys District winners. The winners of Districts #3-16 will be(according to my hazy crystal ball)--Parkway South, DeSmet, Vianney, Troy, Ft Zumalt North, McCluer North, Rock Bridge, Rolla, Nixa, Webb City,  Blue Springs South, Liberty, Central (St Joseph, MO), Rockhurst. Not every pick here is a #1 seed. Liberty is a #3 choice in their district.

How about these apples....seeded #3, in district 8 with a 24-3 record is the McCluer Comets!! McCluer North & Haz Central are rated above them in the seed. 24 wins and you don't get a 1...or even a 2 seed...ouch! Erwin Claggett will have his Comets ready to prove everyone wrong! Maybe you sympathize with the Kickapoo Chiefs. The Chiefs are 21-7 and seeded #4 in district 11. The high flying Nixa Eagles 27-1 grabbed the top seed.

On the Girls side, I'm going with Jackson(17-7) and hosting district, St Joe(22-5), Lafayette (19-4), IWA (21-6), Kirkwood (22-4) , Ft Zumwalt West(18-5), Howell Central (18-9), Hazelwood Central (15-8), Rock Bridge (20-3), West Plains Zizzers (I have to put in that nickname--it's one of my favorites)(23-3), Ozark in district 11 at 21-4, Carthage (19-7), Blue Springs (21-4), Wm Chrisman (18-6), Staley (17-6), Lee Summit West (10-14). Most are #1 seeds...it seems like there is a wider range between the top seeds in most girls districts.

Next time someone moans to you about their district seed, put yourself in the shoes of the Lady Branson Pirates. They were 20-6 for the year but didn't get the #1 seed...or the #2...or the #3 or....the #4...yes, they were #5.

Guess the coaches were right though, Branson lost their first round game to Kickapoo (17-6) 44-38. Other records in the district were #1 Glendale 21-3, #2 Ozark 21-4, and #3 Nixa 20-5.

How is it with Mizzou in the top 5 of the country, SLU enjoying a banner season, the Blues in the to 5 of the NHL that Lynn Lance is the front page picture on the Sunday morning paper?  Come on...it is spring training. Sometimes, one might think that the Cardinals own the Post ?

Prepcasts has a full plate of games this week in District Competition. Check our schedule page for basketball, hockey and college softball!
