CLASS 6 DISTRICT 2 …
Shuffling in the standings in this district continued right to the final game of the district. While the Hazelwood Central Hawks had solidified their top spot prior to the weekend, several first round matchups were modified. Pattonville jumped up a notch to #4 on the strength of their 44-20 win over McCluer North. Meanwhile SLUH dropped to the #6 position after falling to Oakville. The Jr Bills (MCC) will now travel to Ritenour (Suburban North) while Pattonville (4-5) of the Suburban North now plays DeSmet (5-4) of the MCC on the road. Each of these games now pit opponents that rarely see each other and provides some freshness and excitement in the preparation. In either of the games, upsets could happen. CBC did raise some eyebrows this weekend with their huge victory over Francis Howell 30-12 who had been ranked in the top 3 of Class 6 in many polls. Just a week earlier when the Cadets had dropped a 13-9 contest to a terrific Class 4 team (Helias Crusaders), some observers felt that CBC was really missing their injured starting SR QB Tyler Creath and would not be able to matchup up with the Vikings. Not so–CBC’s Soph signal caller, Blake Charlton emerged in the Howell game and passed for over 200 yards as the Cadets blew the game wide open in the last quarter. Hazelwood Central’s unbeaten season has been impressive. The Hawks won two very close games (over Webster Groves and DeSmet) in weeks 1 and 2 but have coasted since that time on their way to a 9-0 regular season as they’ve averaged over 41 ppg! Allowing 22 ppg game over the season does make them susceptible to struggles against higher ranked teams.
