Class 6 District 2 –

One week remaining prior to District Tournament –

The Hazelwood Central Hawks (8-0) and facing a 1-7 McCluer team this week has locked up the #1 seed. While CBC holds the #2 spot currently, the loss of QB Tyler Creath seems to have stalled the offense. The Cadets were beaten by a very talented, Class 4 team-the Helias Crusaders, on Staurday 13-9. Helias scored all 13 of their points in the last quarter. The #1 ranked team of Class 6, District 3, the Francis Howell Vikings are on tap for the Cadets next week so one could expect a very tough game for CBC. The #3 ranked team of this district, the Ritenour Huskies coached by Hoyt Gregory are also coming off a tough loss. The Huskies fell 36-33 to the Hazelwood East Spartans when HE scored the winning TD with just 27 seconds left to pull out a victory after seeing Ritenour dominate the 2nd half. Ritenour tangles with the Riverview Gardens Rams (3-5) to conclude their regular season this week. DeSmet seems to be locked into it’s the #4 seed entering the district. Meanwhile, the Jr Billikens, who won a 30-28 win over Mehville on Friday with a 29 yard FG at the horn have jumped up to the 5th spot. SLUH hosts Oakville (5-3) on Friday. This should be a highly competitive game. A win will keep the Jr Bills in the 5th spot. A loss could change their standing.  Right on their tails are the Hazelwood West Wildcats (3-5). West will have to deal with the Hazelwood East Spartans this week (5-3) so they will have their hands full. While Pattonville would LOVE to move up to #6 spot (so they could play their long-time rival, Ritenour, again, the Pirates have a tough assignment in the McCluer North Stars. #8 Howell North has their opponent set with Haz Central for week 1 of District competition. The exact standings are below. These standings use a variety of parameters to establish their current “points”. Wins, records of opponents, size of school of opponents, margin of victory are some of the measure to establish the rankings. As you may surmise, losses usually drop your average so these games of the final week are crucial in reaching the exact pairings for week 1 of District. The 8 team tournament will be held in the usual 1 v 8, 2v 7, 3 v 6, 4 v 5 in round one. Round two sees 1-8 winner vs 4-5 winner, 2-7 winner vs 3-6 winner and of course the final round are the remaining two teams. Any loss along the way ends the season for a team.
