There were plenty of things to be excited about the Fox-Seckman game on Tuesday. First of all, it was the Fox District Battle for Bragging Rights as Fox played Seckman. It doesn’t matter the sport—it’s always a “special” game. Then, Fox was opening their season. To top it off, we had a great 9 inning game won by Seckman 6-5.
Seckman jumped ahead in the 2nd on Cierra Pierce’s blast over the left-center field fence. Fox tied it 1-1 in the 4th on a couple base hits and a couple fielders choices. When Seckman scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning as the first 7 batters reached base, many thought that this game was over.
Not so, trailing 5-1 in the top of the 6th, Fox scored 3 runs to make it 5-4. In the 7th, with 2 outs, Fox scored the tying run as an errant pick-off throw to 3B allowed the tying run to score. Neither team scored in the 8th, Fox threatened in the 9th but couldn’t push a run across the plate. In the bottom of the 9th. after a lead-off walk, an OF error and an intentional walk, Roni Knnittig lined a base hit to left field to drive home the game-winner. For her game winning hit, a 2 for 5 day at the plate and some nice defensive plays at SS, Knittig was named the Lions Choice Athlete of the Game.
