Eureka advances to STATE Tournament!

Using the one-hit pitching of Maddie Krumrey , an explosive 3rd inning and a Home Run, the Eureka Wildcats shut out their familiar Suburban West foe, the Lafayette Lancers, 6-0 at Rockwood Summit in the Class 4 District Championship Game.  Scoreless to the bottom of the 3rd, the key play of the game came with 2 out and runners on 1st & 2nd. Allie Craft grounded a single to left just passed the reach of the SS. When Allie Webb was waved around from 2nd base, the throw home was late. Seeing the trailing runner heading to 3B, the Lafayette catcher threw to 3B. The throw went wide and into left field. The 2nd run scored on that throw. As the Left-fielder, backing up the play properly, missed the overthrow in the outfield, the batter-runner, Craft circled the bases! So, suddenly it was 3-0 Eureka.  The Wildcats pushed across a single tally in the 4th on Allie Webb’s double. It was Webb again in the spotlight in the 6th inning. She blasted a home run over the right-center field fence to make the score 6-0. Meanwhile, Krumrey allowed a hit in the 1st inning which would be the only Lancer hit of the game. Webb was awarded the Lions Choice Athlete of the Game Award and Krumrey the Custom Graphics Standout Player of the Game.  Lafayette ends their season at 20-5 while the Wildcats (24-4) enter STATE tournament play against the Webster Groves Statesman (18-9) on Wednesday in the Sectional Game.
