Bob Ryan Blog – Week Seven – Rivalry Game becomes a Classic

Rivalry Game becomes a Classic

When the Pattonville Pirates tangle with the Riteour Huskies, it’s ALWAYS a real grudge match between these two long-time Suburban North rivals. The game this Saturday (you may have missed the score due to the Cardinal and Mizzou excitement) was a Classic.  In Overtime, Ritenour kicks a field Goal to win 41-38. The Huskies raced out to a 24-8 lead after one quarter but they failed on all four PAT’s (including two kicking attempts). Despite Devin Alexander’s 99 TD run in 2nd quarter for the Huskies, the Pirates slashed the lead to 32-22 by halftime. No scoring in 3rd quarter but in the 4th, Pattonville scored the last two touchdowns of the game to tie it at 38-38. Then, in the first OT, Ritenour (who had not kicked a PAT all day long) wins the game on an 18 yard FG by Khalil Levin! Aah…the strange events of High School football! Ritenour has quietly posted a 6-1 record this year, with their only loss being to Hazelwood Central and should be receiving some consideration for Top 10 status in St Louis Large Schools.  The always-tough, Hazelwood East Spartans loom on the schedule next week for Ritenour.
