The Dragons scored first in a turnover, penalty plagued first half, on a
43 yard interception return by sophomore cornerback Logan Rhinehart, to
take a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Valle countered on their next possession with an 8 play, 65 yard drive,
that ended with an 11 yard TD run by Jr. Lee Stuppy. Jr. QB Connor
Basler gave the Warriors, who outgained the Dragons 387 yards to 123 on
the night, the lead for good at 14-7 with a 55 yard run late in the
Ste. Genevieve’s outstanding sophomore QB Wyatt Lalumondier suffered a
concussion just before halftime, limiting the Dragons offense in the
final 24 minutes. The Warriors put the game way with 3 second half
touchdowns as Basler scored from the 11 and the 9. Stuppy tallied his
second TD on a 63 yard run to finish the scoring. The Warriors spread
zone read option totaled 316 yards on the ground and the defense held
the Dragons to 123 yards, all rushing, and only 2.6 yards per carry.
Ste. Genevieve (1-1), who have now lost 5 skill position players to
injury in the last month, will travel to New Madrid County Central
Friday night for a 7:00 game.
The top ranked Class 1 Warriors (2-0) will
tangle with #2 Class 1 Westran (2-0) Saturday afternoon at St. Francis
Borgia in Washington. Game time 1:30.
