Buzz Swanston Blog – VB – LAF/MARQ

Lion’s Choice 212 Athlete of the Game – Lafayette’s SR OH Jackie Scott – had 5 kills in the match, but was more impressive with her serve receive and her digging that kept balls alive for her teammates to terminate.

Custom Shirt Graphics Standout Player – Marquette JR  MH  Emily Rudolph – Really strong in the first set as the Mustangs pulled within 3 points of the Lancers.  She had 4 kills in that set and 5 overall.  Also had an ace and a couple of blocks for points.
Lafayette jumped out to an early lead in set #1.  But by the time the Lancer’s had 21 points, the Mustangs only trailed by 3.  Lancer’s finish the set out, being led by their senior outside hitter Lily Johnson.  Lancers 25-20.  Setter Maggie Scott did a nice job spreading the sets out to all the weapons the Lancers have.  In the second set another early lead for Lafayette, that they stretch to 10-1.  Jackie Scott was a consistent hitter in both sets and the Lancer take the second by a lopsided score of 25-10.  The match featured many good, long rallies.  Both teams made some great defensive plays, especially the Mustangs libero, Amy Kindt.  In the end, the blocking of Lafayette made it tough for Marquette to build a consistent attack.
