Jim Baer Blog – Week Eight – Ladue / Ft. Zumwalt N.

Ladue learned a good lesson Saturday. Never give up on a game.

 

Fort Zumwalt North scored the first 14 points of the game, but Ladue persisted, scoring 20-fourth quarter points to upset the Panthers 33-17. Ladue is 7-1, North is 6-3.

 

Ladue’s quarterback Matt Hooper ran the game winner with 2:14 left in the game and a two point conversion to receiver Duncan Cannon secured the hard-fought victory.

 

Hooper fired three TD passes and ran for a fourth in the Rams 7th consecutive victory on the season. They close out the regular schedule with a game at Jennings Saturday.

 

Ryan Glazer was a sensation, In the second half, Glazer returned a kickoff 70 yards then scored on a 15 yard strike from Hooper.

 

Then Glazer returned a punt 60 yards for another TD. Hooper ran in the game winner with just 2:14 left in the contest, beating Fort Zumwalt North, 33-27.

 

Despite losing, North’s junior signal caller Brenden Pierce played brilliantly, racking up well over 200 yards of passing and running in the loss to Ladue. He had more than 150 yards of offense in the first half.

The Players of the Game … Ladue Co Players: QB Matthew Hooper and WR Ryan Glazer.
Hooper fired three TDs and ran for a third and Ladue stormed back, scoring 20 fourth quarter points to beat Fort Zumwalt West/ Ryan Glazer scored on a 15 yard catch which he set up on his own kick off return of 70 yards. He returned another punt 60 yards setting up the game-winning TD.
Standout player for FTZN – Junior QB Brenden Pierce had more than 200 yards of passing and running but lost to Ladue 33-27.

Jim Baer Blog – Week 6 – Ladue / Affton

Ladue scored a safety and had a near miss on a second one and the Ladue defense smothered Affton 30-0 at Homecoming 2013. This was the first home game of the year and there will be just two all season long.

 

Ladue goes to Clayton for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Greyhounds this coming Friday night.

 

Matt Hooper used his legs to grind out some 75 yards of running and scored on TD runs of 15 and 3 to route the visiting Cougars.

 

James Scott had a big day running the ball and scored on a 29-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

 

Though Jack Fox missed a 32-yard field goal attempt, he was good on all four extra points.

 

Ladue dominated the game from the opening whistle with the reserves playing the last few minutes of the game.

 

Ladue has run off five consecutive victories after dropping its opener to Parkway Central, 42-10.

 

The defense has come up big with game saving tackles by Nathaniel Howard, Julian Federick, Chris Bouderous, Brent Morrow and a host of other defenders.

With the win, Ladue has the inside track to win the Suburban East crown for the third-consecutive year.

Jim Baer Blog – Week 5 – Ladue / Normandy

Ladue stepped up its offense in the second half, beating Normandy47-6 to win its fourth game in five tries. Ladue scored 33 points in the second half, after leading at half, 14-0.

Quarterback Matthew Hooper did not attempt or complete a single pass until midway in the second quarter.
Malcom Davis scored on two short runs for the Rams; other TDs came on a one-yard run by James Scott; and a pair of TD runs, 6 and 10 by Udell Hyde; a a TD pass Hooper to Ryan Glazier and a 20 yard TD run by reserve Mario Whitney late in the game.
Ladue was plagued by a number of penalties including two personal fouls in the contest.
Normandy got its solo TD on a 3-yard run by Cary Winston with 40 seconds left in the third quarter but missed the extra point.

Malcom Davis, seldom gets to carry ball as fullback scored on two short runs as Ladue ran over Normandy 47-6. Ladue is 4-1, going into the Homecoming game with Affton this coming Saturday. Davis led the defense with a number of tackles.
Cary Winston stepped in for starter Ken Becton of Normandy and rushed for 53 yards and one TD. Normandy lost to Ladue, 47-6.
Ladue, 4-1 hosts Affton Saturday at 1 p.m. at Homecoming 2013, their first of just two home games this season. – Click here for the game
