Parkway North Stops McCluer Twice When it Counts

Kodner2011Both teams headed into this game with an 0-1 record.  For the McCluer Comets it was a series of mistakes in their first game, that Coach Mario McDonald felt, kept his team from achieving a victory.  In addition,  McCluer High School is located in the middle of Ferguson where all of the recent protests have created an huge distraction for the Comets.  Coach Bob Bunton, of the Parkway North Vikings, felt it was giving up more than 300 yards on the ground in their first contest made them fall to Timberland.  This game started out slow with both teams not able to move the ball on their first possession.  However, the second time the Viking’s had the football, they had a short field, due to a poor punt.  They drove the ball 37 yards, in 6 consecutive running plays, capped off by a 5 yards touchdown run by senior tailback Roosevelt Abram and Parkway north had a 7-0 lead.  The Comets began their next series on their own 35 yard line.  They put together a 17 play drive that was stopped at the half yard line of the Vikings and they game went into halftime 7-0.  In the second half, neither team was able to move the ball as they punted back and forth on their first three possessions.  Finally, McCluer drove the ball 71 yards, down to the Parkway North 5 yard line and had first and goal.  Once again, the Viking defense was up to the challenge as they stopped the Comets on 4 plays and kept the Comets out of the end zone.  The Vikings then marched down the field on 12 running plays, 10 of them by Abram, and again scored to increase their lead to 14-0.  On their next possession, McCluer could not move the football and turned it over on downs.  The Vikings then ran the clock out with the final of 14-0, and Parkway North secured their first victory of the season.  The Vikings scored on the only two possessions that they had in the Red Zone, while the Comets were stopped both times they had the ball first and goal.  Click here for the replay …

The Prepcasts Broadcasting Network Promotes MDA

MDA logoThis would be the weekend that you would always stay up late and watch Jerry Lewis do his annual fundraising on his telethon.  With his retirement the torch has been passed to the communities and to us.

The Prepcasts Broadcasting Network will try to do their part to keep this need alive this weekend.  We will be promoting what MDA is doing in the Kansas City area on those broadcasts and what St. Louis is doing with the KSDK-TV mini telethon on the east side of the state broadcasts.

Here is a link about the Kansas City Lock-UP … http://www2.mda.org/site/TR/Lock-Up/77-675-KansasCityDistrict?fr_id=12019&pg=entry and a link about the telethon … http://archive.ksdk.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=335464

The broadcasts will also be presenting PSA’s from celebrities during the broadcasts as well.

Thanks for those that have already supported MDA and please give what you can when the Firefighter’s come around with their boots this weekend.
