The second leg of our double header saw the Parkway West Longhorns double up the John Burroughs Bombers 4-2. The win gave the Longhorns their fourth straight victory. The story of the this game was the continued offensive dominance of speedy sophomore Nick Balestra who scored all four goals and was the Custom Shirt Graphics Player of the Game for West. Balestra has a whopping eight goals in his last two games and now has 27 goals and 43 points on the season.
Burroughs had a good showing themselves despite missing their best player in Alex Jasiek who had midget major commitments. The Bombers’ Jack Maritz had a solid showing including a goal mid-way through the 3rd period that cut the West lead to 3-2. The rugged 6’2″ Maritz, an All-Metro offensive lineman for the Burrough’s football team in the fall, made the conversion to the ice quite smoothly and was the Player of the Game for the Bombers.
With Burrough’s pressing late, Longhorn netminder Jordan Wojtak came up with some key saves to keep his team ahead before Balestra sealed the victory with an empty net goal.

CBC showed why are the best team in Mid-States this season as they improved to 20-0-1 on the season. The Cadets swept the season series from the defending Challenge Cup Champions the SLUH Jr. Bills in convincing fashion at Affton Ice Rink, outscoring them 5-1 and outshooting them by a 4 to 1 margin.
SLUH received some terrific goaltending from their Custom Shirt Graphics Player of the Game Branden Haselhorst who kept his team in the game but the vaunted CBC offensive attack was too much. The most significant goal came late in the second period after SLUH had cut the Cadets lead to 2-1 with a power play tally from Steve Lockwood.
As time was ticking down on the middle period, CBC Junior Josh Bell got behind the SLUH defense and buried a pretty shot under the cross bar with under 12 seconds left in the period to restore CBC’s two goal lead. For that clutch effort, Bell was named the Cadets Player of the Game.
The Cadets would tack on two more goals early in third period from Austin Rueschhoff and Joey Lupo to win going away 5-1.
