One West over another West

Kody Stricklin Announcer PicKyle Luetters Screen Shot 2014-09-03 at 1.07.32 PMIn a battle that featured offensive stars on both sides of the ball, the Longhorns of Parkway West were able to roll to victory against the Lions of Northwest Cedar Hill by the final score of 42-13 .

The Longhorns struck first with a nine yard rush by Nick Lewis which was quickly followed by a one yard fun for another touchdown by Simon Lindo before the end of the first quarter.

Brad Peeples was able to help the Lions get on the board with a two yard run to open the second quarter but the Longhorns remained in control. Austin Sisk connected with Wyatt Yess and Jake Seers for a pair of passing touchdowns while Lewis added another score on the ground.

In all, the Longhorns racked up nearly 425 yards of total offense on the evening.

Heading into round one of the playoffs, Parkway West will take on the Parkway Central Colts while Northwest Cedar Hill travels to face the Kirkwood Pioneers.

Lions Hook UP with Longhorns

Kyle Luetters Screen Shot 2014-09-03 at 1.07.32 PMKody Stricklin Announcer PicThe final regular season weekend in Missouri High School football actions features a match up between the Lions of Northwest Cedar Hill and the Longhorns of Parkway West.

The Lions are looking for their second win of the season as they take on Parkway West for Senior Night. A 42-18 loss against Fox last week dropped the team to 1-7 and hungry for a victory. Running back, Brad Peeples, continues to be a focal point for the Lion offense with over 500 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns for the season.

For the Longhorns, this game will be an opportunity to rebound from a 42-21 loss to Clayton last weekend. Win number three looks to be within grasp, if Parkway West can get the ball into the hands of Simon Lindo who is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and seven touchdowns in 2014.

Webster – G, Zach Sheets. Turned away countless
opportunities from the
longhorns and held Nick Balaestra scoreless …

P.
West – F, Jackson Fleming. Was a force in the offensive end,
swarming the net
with shot after shot. Netted the tying goal late in
the 3rd. Would have had
more if not for the brilliant play of Zach
Sheets.
The game …
It was an evenly
matched, fast-paced game on Senior night for both
squads. P West controlled
the play in the first period, with many
extended stays in the offensive end.
But Webster goalie Zach Sheets
stood tall between the pipes and the Webster
defense did well to
defend the front of the net and keep most Longhorn
shooters out on the
perimeter.

The momentum shifted towards the
Skatesmen in the 2nd period, where
they took a 2-1 lead, but they could not
net an insurance goal as
Longhorns goalie Peter Beauguard was unbeatable for
the remainder of
the game, giving his team a chance to tie it up. That’s
exactly what
happened late in the 3rd, as Jackson Fleming finally beat Zach
Sheets
to tie the game up at 2, earning a point for his team. Click here for the game …

The second leg of our double header saw the Parkway West Longhorns double up the John Burroughs Bombers 4-2. The win gave the Longhorns their fourth straight victory. The story of the this game was the continued offensive dominance of speedy sophomore Nick Balestra who scored all four goals and was the Custom Shirt Graphics Player of the Game for West. Balestra has a whopping eight goals in his last two games and now has 27 goals and 43 points on the season.
Burroughs had a good showing themselves despite missing their best player in Alex Jasiek who had midget major commitments. The Bombers’ Jack Maritz had a solid showing including a goal mid-way through the 3rd period that cut the West lead to 3-2. The rugged 6’2″ Maritz, an All-Metro offensive lineman for the Burrough’s football team in the fall, made the conversion to the ice quite smoothly and was the Player of the Game for the Bombers.
With Burrough’s pressing late, Longhorn netminder Jordan Wojtak came up with some key saves to keep his team ahead before Balestra sealed the victory with an empty net goal.
