The CBC Cadets used a suffocating defense as they handled the SLUH Jr. Billikens 42-14 in the District 2 Semifinal on Friday at CBC. Prior to a drive in the 4th quarter, CBC held the Jr Bills to just two first downs. A swift, swarming defense honed in on Raymond Wingo and continually came up with big defensive plays. The biggest play was the 11 yard “pick 6” interception by Eric Carrera on the first play of the 2nd quarter that came only 1:27 after the first TD for CBC very late in the 1st quarter. Other defensive standouts for CBC were Armon Watts, Kevin Kirkbride and Quintin Wynne.

Offensively, the Cadets used a power running game as they alternated their duo of running backs Calen Taylor and Koner Lamb throughout the game. Taylor finished with 115 yards on 20 carries while Lamb carried 13 times for 92 yards. For the night, CBC had 45 rushing plays that rolled up 278 yards.  Taylor topped off his night with a scintillating 99 yard Kickoff return following SLUH’s 1st TD of the game in the 3rd quarter. Soph QB Blake Charlton used his legs and arm on rushes and passes just enough to keep the Jr. Bills off balance. He finished with 100 total yards with 38 rushing and 62 passing for the night.

Michael Hall scored both SLUH touchdowns on runs of 2 and 4 yards. Hall and Raymond Wingo were the principle ball carries for the Jr. Bills throughout the contest. Defensively, the Jr Bills were led by Nathan Anderson, Michael Hall and Daniel Evans.

CBC, the Metro Catholic Conference champion, raised their record to 9-2 and will face the winner of the Haz Central-DeSmet game on Saturday. St Louis U High completes their season with 4-6 mark.
