Day Three of the 26th Annual Wood Bat American Legion Invitational from Blue Springs Review

WOODBAT_LOGO 619px-Baseball_(crop)Prepcasts.com ‘s coverage of the 2014 Wood Bat Invitational American Legion baseball tournament from Blue Springs, Missouri featured five broadcasts on Friday as pool play wrapped up and pool winners were determined; quarterfinal action begins tomorrow with the semi-finals and final game on Sunday.

In the first game at Jim Moran Field, defending tournament champ Jefferson City, Missouri topped St. Joseph Missouri 8-4.  Jeff City fell behind 7-0, but rallied late to put up four runs highlighted by Dylan Bruener’s three RBI.  Jefferson City earned a quarterfinal spot in the championship tournament later in the day.  Click here for the replay

Game two feature five double plays turned in Union Bank’s win over St. Charles, Missouri.  The team from Lincoln, Nebraska squeezed out a 2-1 victory to win their pool and qualify for the quarterfinals.  Click here for the replay

In game three, pool champion St. Peter’s, Missouri got 11 strikeouts from Hayden Vaughn enroute to an 8-2 win over Dickinson, North Dakota.  Drew Quinones had a three-run triple for St. Peter’s.  Click here for the replay

Post 499 Fike won a wild fourth game to advance to the tournament, as they rallied to take the lead and then had to hang on late against Ada, Oklahoma.  Fike scored two runs late to take the lead on a play that included three errors, and outlasted Ada through 11 total errors in the game to win 6-5.  Click here for the replay

In the final game, Washington, Missouri pitcher Justin Shuler hit the first batter he faced and then gave up a home run to Lee’s Summit Outlaw shortstop Dalton Woods, only to rally with 12 consecutive outs on the way to a 4-2 win over the Outlaws.  Shuler struck out 11 in the game and only allowed three hits as Washington won their pool to qualify for the championship tournament.  Click here for the replay
