Day Two of the 26th Annual Wood Bat American Legion Invitational from Blue Springs Review

WOODBAT_LOGODay two of coverage of the 2014 American Legion Baseball Wood Bat Tournament in Blue Springs, Missouri included five broadcasts from Jim Moran Field on Thursday.

rick cole at tourneyThe first game of the day was a 2-1 win by Bellvue East of Nebraska over Thoman Boothe of St. Louis; Tommy Walther threw a complete game in allowing just one run, two hits, and striking out eight for Bellvue East.  Click here for the replay

In the second game, the West Jaguars of O’Fallon, Missouri got a complete game effort from pitcher Ryan Franklin, shutting out Jackson, Missouri 3-0.  Click here for the replay

Game three was won by the host team, Post 499 Fike 5-1 over Elsberry, Missouri.  Starting pitcher Tanner Lucas loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning, but then retired 17 straight on the way to a complete game victory in which he allowed just three hits.  Click here for the replay

Fike then won the fourth game of the day 3-0 over Westmoreland, Kansas.  Pitching was again the key as Alex Smith tossed a three hit shutout, striking out eight.  Click here for the replay

In the final game  of the day, the Lee’s Summit Outlaws got a two-run double to highlight an 11 hit attack in an 8-0, five inning victory over Gravette, Arkansas.  Woods also came in to close out the game, striking out all three hitters he faced in relief.  Click here for the replay
