Thursday nights’ Suburban South rivalry showdown was absolutely worth the ticket price as both teams, Parkway North and Rockwood Summit, left everything on the field. Both teams came into the contest with same records of 1-1 but having shown the ability to produce points offensively. North coach Bob Bunton showed a balanced running attack behind Jr. halfback Roosevelt Abrams and Fr. fullback Ryan Smith. Summit coach Mike Bellers hoped to counter that attack with Jr. quarterback Matt Seymour throwing to the wideouts Jr. Ryan Bickings and So. Jordan Haliburton.

Summit took a lead in the 2nd quarter on just that, a touchdown pass from Seymour to Haliburton for a 7-0 lead. North came right back with a nice drive down the field on 10 plays capped off by a 1 yard td run by Abrams evening the score at 7-7. With under a minute left until halftime, Seymour threw an ill-advised pass and it was returned for a 67 yard pick 6 allowing North to grab the lead 13-6 at half.
North took the second half kickoff and drove the length of the field on a 15 play drive with Abrams scoring again for a 1 yard plunge and a two point conversion making it 21-7. On the next possession, Summit drove the length of the field for a 12 play drive and 17 yard td pass from Seymour to Bickings closing the gap to 21-14. After Summit stopped the next North drive at the Summit 25, a missed field goal allowed Summit one last chance.
Summit took over from their own 25 and moved to the North 35 before North’s defense stood tall and made the game saving stand that turned the ball over on downs allowing North to come away with a 21-14 victory and improve to 2-1 on the season while Summit dropped to 1-2.
