Prior to the 2013 8-man championship title game, the lowest scoring output for the championship dated back some twenty plus years to 1992 and a 20-20 tie.  That now sets as number two for the lowest scoring 8-man title games as two undefeated squads, North Andrew and Stanberry, battled for state supremacy in a rematch of a blowout last year for the Bulldogs’ first state title.  The Cardinals from North Andrew (Rosendale) would seek their fourth title.
In a defensive struggle (talk about an oxymoron in 8-man action), the Cardinals stiff defense, giving up less than a TD per game all year, scored a sack on the opening play of scrimmage to steal away a 2-0 lead.  Later that quarter, Stanberry would answer on a QB run made by Ike Heddinger, that would give the ‘Dogs a 7-2 lead to remain through the first quarter.  Fighting field position issues throughout the duration of the game, and struggling to effectively receive the football in the special teams game, North Andrew would finally retake the lead late in the half on a TD pass from Nate Atkins to Nathan Dalbey.  The conversion failed and the Cards held a slight advantage 8-7 at the half.
The second half was more like the first as the teams bandied back and forth playing the field position game, until Stanberry’s stud back, Nate Luke, burst through a hole and scampered for a long score to put the Bulldogs back up 13-8.  The conversion failed on the PAT kick, and that coupled with the safety proved huge for both teams.  The third quarter would conclude with the Cardinals trailing 13-8 and looking to ride the laurels of their horse of  back, Quayde Bauman.  Needing just over one hundred yards on the day to topple 1000 for the year, Bauman proved to be a workhorse all game long, finally exhausting the Stanberry defense and bursting through a huge hole for a long run matching Luke’s from the third quarter.  He would also score around left end for the two point conversion to give North Andrew the 16-13 advantage.  Stanberry would drive past midfield before another intentional grounding penalty put the skids to their drive.  A couple last ditch efforts each fell short, however, giving North Andrew their fourth state title and setting the record for lowest scoring game in 8-man title game history, and setting the pace (much like 2012) for a much lower scoring championship weekend at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis with all 7 title games featured on the Prepcasts networks.
