James DamonOf the six major classes, all my state champions are still alive.  I expected repeats in classes 2, 3, 4, & 6 (Lamar, Maryville, Webb City, and Blue Springs) as well as Lee’s Summit West taking it in class 5.  I hedged a bit with the expectation of a Valle Catholic-Penney rematch for the Class 1 title but waffled a bit later in the season.  It’s just hard to go against either of those teams.  I think Valle has the decided edge over Marceline in that game.  Lamar might get a test early, but should be favored to win handily. Click here for the Lamar vs Lawson game – Maryville’s strong running game is what Seneca likes to do as well, but Matt Webb should remain undefeated through year two.  Click here for the Seneca vs Maryville game – The class 4 & 5 games are what I expect to be the best (apart from 8 man which you should never try to over-analyze).  Webb City and Helias are both coached excellently with difference makers on both sides of the ball.  I think Webb has the advantage, but never count out the Crusaders. Click here for the Helias Catholic vs Webb City game – I give the edge to the Titans who I’ve studied from afar all year in Class 5; I think this is a hungry (and angry) team after being upset in the quarters last year.  But this is a Parkway Central team with talent and that can play physical.  This should be a great game. Click here for the Parkway Central vs Lee’s Summit West game – As much as I’d like to talk about magic runs and good games, Blue Springs likely had their “dud” game against Eureka, and still won by 28.  That does not bode well for the Bruins and Coach Ofodile.  They can move the ball via ground and air attack, but when this Wildcat defense shows up, it is scary for their opponents.  I don’t think it will be a blowout, but I would not be shocked if the quick clock ran this one down.  The Wildcats are that good, and likely deserving of a much higher national rating than they are getting right now. Click here for the Rock Bridge vs Blue Springs game – In 8 man action two undefeateds will meet as North Andrew battles Stanberry.  Click here for the North Andrew vs Stanberry game – If you’ve never watched or listened to 8-man action, check it out.  The scores are fast and often and it’s fun football.
