James Damon – WEMO FB – Week Six

WEMO Week 6  …

In another week filled with mostly WEMO blowouts, the Prepcasts-KCMW game of the week had all sorts of fireworks and shenanigans after a scoreless first quarter.  The Drexel Bobcats and Rich Hill Tigers fought for a much needed win for both squads as they both had lost two consecutive games.  After a quarter and change of a scoreless game, the big play Drexel offense struck on a 60+ yard TD run by Tyler Allen, his first of three TD scores on the night, all with runs over 50 yards!  A failed fourth down effort by Rich Hill gave the Cats great field position and they tacked up a big score to lead at the half 16-0.
The teams traded scores during the third quarter as each squad seemingly had big play after big play.  But the zaniness came after each team had successive unsportsmanlike conduct penalties forcing each team to have an ensuing kickoff inside the opponents’ territory!  A wild second half finally calmed after Rich Hill turned the ball over late on a drive that would have cut the deficit to one touchdown.  The Bobcats would hold on and win going away 38-18 in a wild one.
The Appleton City Bulldogs came off a bye week pushing Adrian for all they wanted for the first half.  But the Blackhawks depth and overall numbers provided to be one of the differences as they won going away 57-19.  The Osceola Indians, hosting the Archie Whirlwinds, scored early and often running away with another conference game, 63-20.  They appear primed to make a deep run in the playoffs….the only hesitation is their district is stacked with the team handing them their only loss thus far (#4 in the state, Cass-Midway), and a one-loss power in Skyline, ranked #7 (that lone loss just came this last weekend to an undefeated foe ranked in class 2, Ash Grove).  Referencing those Midway Vikings, their non-conference match-up pitted them against Christ Prep Academy in Kansas City, Kansas, and the game, as expected was not close.  The Vikes easily handed the Patriots 40-14 to remain undefeated.
The final week of the conference season is this week as the leader, Midway, hosts Rich Hill.  Archie travels to Appleton City, where one team will finish the game with their first win on the Prepcasts-KCMW game of the week; Adrian hosts Osceola in a game that holds significant implications in the final conference standings.  Drexel, already finished with their conference slate, travels to take on Sherwood this week.
WEMO standings after six weeks: Cass-Midway Vikings 6-0, 5-0 – Osceola Indians 5-1, 4-1 – Drexel Bobcats 4-2, 4-2 – Adrian Blackhawks 4-2, 3-2 – Rich Hill Tigers 2-4, 2-3 – Appleton City Bulldogs 0-5, 0-5 – Archie Whirlwinds 0-6, 0-5 … Click here for the week six game
