Jim Baer Blog – Week 3 – Laude / McCluer S Berkeley

A timely fourth-quarter interception by Ivan Hurse and a 21 yard return for a TD handed Ladue a hard-fought 28-20 victory over McCluer South Berkeley at St. Louis U. High Thursday night.

Ladue is now 2-1 this season, and league leaders in the Suburban East with that victory. Quarterback Matthew Hooper and speedster Ryan Glazer hooked up on TD strikes of 23 and 4 and a TD catch by Cody Kniptash just over the goalline on a fourth-down play made the win possible.

Ladue was without the services of its two-way star Chris Boudoures who had to sit out a one game suspension for a major foul at Parkway West last week.

Berkeley kept running back Udell Hyde pretty much under wraps. Berkley’s QB L’Marko Bell put on a passing clinic, firing TDs to Ryan Stokes and Eugene Irby.

A failed fake punt, deep in their own territory denied the Bulldogs the opportunity to pull off the win. Berkeley falls to 2-1 with the loss.

Ladue travels to McCluer Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against the Comets.
