Jim Pleimann Blog – Northwest vs Mehlville – Week 1

You really got to see the excitement that high school football can generate if you were at Mehlville last Friday night. The Northwest lions ended a very extended losing streak and did it in exciting fashion forging a 15-14 road win over the Panthers.
When Bradley Peoples ran around the right side following a lead blocker to score on two point conversion to give his teammates a 15-14 lead, the Northwest sideline was overjoyed. A 90-yard drive was complete. The conversion put the icing on the cake.
The players leaped into each others arms, there were bear hugs in the stands, coaches were high-fiving on the sideline and in the steamy press box. Jubilation was everywhere.
Coach Nick Hoth made the call trailing 14-13. He went for the win. It was full speed ahead. Either win it, or die trying. His kids came through! They did it for themselves, their coaches and their parents friends and classmates.
It was fun to watch. It was fun to be a part of. If you ever wanted to see the joy of victory – that was it. A win. A road win. A Suburban West Conference win. And a win for the program of Northwest.
The Lion’s Choice Athlete of the Game went to Senior quarterback Adam Roth. Roth showed senior leadership keeping his poise in leading a 90 yard drive touchdown drive mixing clutch completions along with the running game, that culminated into his 1- yard touchdown cap the drive.

The Custom Shirt Graphics Standout Player – Senior receiver Cole Peters hauled in two big catches in the Lions game-winning 90-yard drive. Peters was also able to tack yardage on after the catches which proved vital in the Lions attack.
