However, the Miller Career Phoenix found their niche and scored the next 48 points on way to a 48-21 victory in a District Championship Game in the Class 4 level. Miller Career is now 11-0 for the season. Using deception, misdirection and well executed plays, the Dragons took the opening kickoff and marched down the field on an 8 play, 70 yard drive culminated on the 1st pass of the game, a 30 yard strike from Cody Beile to Jake DeWeese. The PAT by DeWeese made it 7-0. The Phoenix turned the ball over twice in the first period. Each time, the Dragons capitalized. William Pratt raced 26 yards into the end zone at the 2:09 mark of the opening quarter to push the lead to 14-0. Early in the 2nd quarter, QB Cody Beile ran an option to perfection, found the alley and bolted 35 yards to make it 21-0. Suddenly, the Phoenix arose! After the defense forced the Dragons backwards a consecutive plays in mid-2nd quarter, Javon Collard took a punt on the 15 yard line. He outran the coverage across the field, picked up a bevy of blockers around the 30 yard line and weaved his way into the end zone on an 85 yard punt return at the 5:28 of the 2nd quarter. From that point onward, the game belonged to Miller Career. Jaylen James scored two more touchdowns in the 1st half, including a 1 yard plunge as the half ended and Miller Career hurried into the locker room with a 22-21 halftime lead. In the 2nd half, the Phoenix went to the power run game. Using QB Jaylen James and running back Marquis Stewart primarily, the Phoenix gobbled up large chunks of yardage on many plays. Steward rambled 40 yards on the final play of the 3rd quarter, the 2 point conversion run by Damien Winston made it 30-21 (a 2 score game). St Mary’s was unable to mount any real drive in the 2nd half as the Phoenix crowded the box with 8 men and let them penetrate to disrupt the precise SM offense. De-Beion Twitty, Karon Thomas and Ra-Sheen Bolden stood out defensively for Miller Career, especially in the 2nd half. Meanwhile Miller Career kept pounding the football. Marquis Stewart finished with 249 yards in 15 carries.  QB Jaylen James ran as a power back, often putting his head down to add on extra yardage and finished with 189 yards in 18 attempts. For the game, Miller Career posted 511 rushing yards with the vast majority of it coming in the 2nd half. Couple the 511 rushing and 94 passing by James, the Phoenix rolled up over 600 total yards of offense. Javon Collard wrapped up the scoring with 42 yard pick-six interception. Collard was named the Lion’s Choice 212 Athlete of the Game for his big plays, including the punt return that ignited the Miller Career offense. William Pratt earned the Custom Graphics Standout Player of the Game for his offensive production. – Click here to view the game
