Last week the furious action on the field was terrific. We don’t
want to rehash the old news for you but some things did pop into
our mind about the teams and games.
Shocked!
Most observers conceded that any Class 4 from the bottom half of
the bracket would have to go through the Webb City Cardinals.
NOT SO! The Cardinals were gliding early in the game as they
grabbed the lead. When the Tigers rallied, the Cards responded
with a beautiful drive showing their skill and moxie.
Unbelievably, a unsportsmanlike penalty on the Webb City TD was
called for excessive celebration! The once automatic PAT became
a 35 yard attempt which failed. The Tigers broke a long losing
streak with the win. The only unbeaten class 4 team, Lee Summit
West Titans (11-0), now wears the robe of the favorite in this
classification. The Titans will have a rematch with the team
that provided them with their closest game – the Kearney
Bulldogs (10-1) tonight.
What happens to Carthage ? They will face the Ozark Tigers.

Speaking of Ozark, what about this? Trailing 35-0 in 3rd
quarter to the Union Wildcats, the Tigers scored on 7 STRAIGHT
possessions! Ultimately, this game went OT. Union scored first
and kicked the PAT. When Ozark scored, they went for TWO (to win
or lose)! Obviously when Matt Jordan crossed the goal for the
2-pointer the Tigers won a wild 57-56 game! Ozark won their
first playoff game since 1998 and now will face the euphoric
Carthage Tigers. Which Tiger team will win—send us your
choice!
Before leaving Union for the season, how about Jr. QB Jordan
Webb’s numbers for the season? An incredible 4,323 yards and 53
touchdown passes as he led a team that had only 3 seniors on its
roster ! Send us your nominees for other outstanding QB in MO.
Class 6 games saw two favorites pound opponents easily.
Rockhurst dismantled Blue Springs 42-17 while Mehlville chopped
down the Jr Bills 39-14. Will it be the Jolly Green Giant of
Mehlville and the Rock at the Dome ? Give us your pick ?

More than any recruiter could say or do, the scoreboard turned
Blaine Gabbert all the way around. He revoked his oral
commitment to Nebraska and now has agreed, orally, to Mizzou.
Winning draws other good players. They want the thrills,
exposure, big bowl trips, scouts to see them easily and fun of
winning. What do you think ? Is it better to go to a weaker
program and have a higher chance of playing sooner or a better
program and wait for your turn ?
Upsets !
Usually, upsets are overstated at this level, in my opinion.
Most of these teams are GOOD, VERY GOOD or TERRIRIC. With that
being said, there clearly was an upset last Wednesday in Class
2. After losing to Mountain Grove 44-14 in regular season, the
Cabool Bulldogs upset the unbeaten Panthers 28-27 in OT last
Wednesday. The Dogs now face a 7-4 E. Newton team as the Lawson
Cardinals (11-0) loom on the horizon.
Class 3 gazing
There are some great games tonight. My crystal ball is telling
me Harrisonville and MICDS. The Borgia-Moberly. Grain Valley-St
Pius X tussles should be a great games and my crystal ball is
too clouded to read those games.
It looks that the Fredericktown Blackcats (9-2) peaked a bit too
soon. The Blackcats lost their final district game and then were
knocked off by the New Madrid County Eagles. Nevertheless, a
great season for the Blackcats.
Tonight
www.prepcasts.com will cover MICDS-New Madrid County and the
Crystal City-Maplewood games. ON Friday both Class 6 semifinals
will be heard on Prepcasts, Mehlville-Pattonville and
DeSmet-Rockhurst. Tune in and enjoy the action LIVE or later!
