Let's start with some of the HOT teams in Missouri after this HOT April weekend.

...Westminster Christian Academy started slowly at the plate and some observers "wrote off" the team...not so fast. Now sitting at 11-5 with 9 straight wins and batting averages on the rise. Don't forget Jacob Turner will be on the mound for all the "big" matchups for the Wildcats.

...Van Horn (7-0) remained unbeaten with 9-4 win over Hickman Mills in Tournament play.

...Francis Howell (12-5) has won 5 of the last 6 games under coach Tony Perkins. Nice wins over Vianney and Holt highlighted play this week for the Vikings.

...Rolla (16-2)- no surprise to any baseball fans across the STATE for the #2 ranked team. This week, ace southpaw Dalton Friend returned to the mound without any soreness. Velocity and movement looked tremendous in this limited 50 pitch performance as the Bulldogs whipped St. Clair 8-2.

...Parkway Central (10-4) is riding a 6 game win streak into this week. The Colts have standout slugger Matt Borgschulte leading the way from the plate.

...Marquette (8-3) has won 6 of last 7 including impressive wins over Parkway South (11-1) & Festus (9-2) recently.

...DuBourg (9-4) had 8 game win streak snapped by Lafayette on Friday in tournament action

MORE HOT TEAMS NEXT WEEK !!!

A triple play is an unusual play at ANY time. This week, Timberland pulled off a real UNUSUAL triple play. As CBC batted in the 6th trying to rally with 2 runners on base, a pop up to shallow right field, down the line, seemingly in "no man's land" was caught on a diving play. Both runners tagged up on 2nd & 3rd base. After the play, an appeal was made regarding BOTH runners leaving too early and it was granted. A triple play without any outs in the infield by a tag of any sort-- it's a new one on me!

There really just aren't too many shutouts in high school baseball. Well, how about the Ft Zumwalt South Bulldog staff. They proudly have 4 shutouts and two other 1-run games already in 2009 !  AJ Walkenhorst leads this very talented staff.

GOOSE-EGG GAMES FOR THE WEEK..

..Rob Douthit only gave up runs in a single inning as he led Holt past Howell North 4-3.Douthit had 12 strikeouts in the complete game performance.

...Andy Flett of Lindbergh struck out 15 Oakville Tigers as the Lindbergh Flyers handed the the Tigers their first loss of the year 6-5.

..Fox did a shutout by committee approach in the 5-0 whitewashing of the Kirkwood Pioneers. Brian Burwell hurled 6 and Jack Celeslie finished up the shutout in the 7th.

WALKOFF TIME....

...Matt Borgschulte's 3 run blast in the bottom of the 8th gave the Parkway Central Colts a 10-7 win over the Parkway West Longhorns. This game had 3 dingers-- Keenan Maddox opened up the blast-parade with a HR for West. Tyler Gans also poked one out for the Colts.

....Kirk Moore also knocked a 3-run blast over the boards as he led the Monnet Cubs to a 14-12 win over Carl Junction. Moore finished with 4 RBI's for the day.

Runnin' Wild games of the Week ..

...Westminster 17 Parkway North 14 in a game that saw 29 combined hits. A leaky defense (7 errors) caught up to the Vikings in this one. Jacob Turner (usually mentioned for his pitching), had 3 hits, 5 RBI's for the Wildcats

...Fox 12 Marquette 10. Fox was behind 10-3 as they pushed across 9 runs in the 6th inning! Mike Corbeil had 3 hits and 6 ribbies for the Mustangs in this wild affair.

....East Newton 15  Lamar 14 as scoring took place in practically each half inning of this Big 8 Conference game. Clayton Miller paced the Patriots with 3 hits and 5 RBI's.

...Berkely scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th to rally for a 17-15 victory over Normandy.

EXTRA INNINGS...

Timberland and Ft Zumwalt North each scored 2 runs in the first inning. Neither scored again until the Wolves scored the winner in the bottom of the 8th in GAC play.
