Well, how did these 3-0 teams play
out this week?
Some were close....some not so
close....take a look...
At CBC, the
Cadets ran into the high flying machine of the DeSmet Spartans.
DeSmet rolled to a 43-0 win as Durron Neal scored four TD's (two
on long punt returns and two on big gainers from the LOS). The
stifling DeSmet defense has permitted on 7 points for the entire
2009 season! SMU bound Steve Kaiser is the QB while David Hill
is the primary running back in this balanced offense.
So. Boone,
stepping up this year, was unable to hold off perennial
Class 1 power the Tipton Cardinals (4-0) in the final quarter as
the Cardinals scored twice to win 34-28.
The Nixa
Eagle (3-1) bounced the Neosho Wildcats (3-1) from the ranks of
the unbeaten with a 14-10 win. Eric Christophel hauled in
a short 3 yard pass with only 1:36 left to win this Central
Ozark Conference game. Nixa is only a single point away from
having an unblemished mark as they fell to Branson 21-20 in a
conference in week 3! The Eagles will face the 4-0 Webb City
Cardinals this week in a terrific game. (see 4X4 pickem page 1)
After he talked the
talk...he walked the walk....
Andrew Boyd of Smith-Cotton
addressed his teammates in a talk "from the heart" at halftime
as his Tigers trailed the O'Hara Celtics (3-1) 20-14. Stepping
on the field, Boyd raced 92 yards with the KO return to give the
Tigers the quick, and permanent, lead as they won 28-20. Smith
Cotton (4-0) grabs the league lead with this win in the West
Central Conference.
Hazelwood
West (4-0) tasted something that they haven't done very often.
The Wildcats crushed the defending Class 5 Champions,
Hazelwood East 61-42. The relentless, yet deceptive with its
misdirection, ground game crunched out 574 yards rushing.
Keeping it balanced with his talented backfield corp, Najal
Cheeks (146 yds), Ryan Ward (149) and Caleb Sims(149) , Coach
Keith Herring kept the Spartans defense back on their heels all
night long ! East is now 0-4 for the season.
Americans love
underdog stories...
John F. Kennedy Celtics were
winless in 2008 and 2007 and often fielded very thin rosters.
This year the Celts raised their mark to 2-2 with a win over ME
Lutheran 29-7. Congrats to the Celtics as their program moves
upward.
Another streak is
snapped.....
For the first time since 1997, the
Wm Chrisman Bears (2-2) toppled Oak Park in football. The Bears
won in a defensive battle 10-7 using some outstanding defense
late in the game to hold onto the win. Bear Coach, Mark Simcox,
had assigned the homework of learning the last time Wm Chrisman
had won this game.
OVERTIME
SCORES AROUND THE STATE...
Rock Port (4-0) survived tenacious
play of the upset minded, Brayner Bobcats (1-3) and won 28-27 in
OT in Class 1 action.
Kirkwood
Pioneers scored late as they rallied from a 17-3 deficit in the
4th quarter to stun the Lafayette Lancers (3-1) 24-17.
The Pioneers scored with only 0:31 seconds left to tie the game
in regulation when Dion Boykin received a 15 yard pass from Sam
Wright, scored in their first possession as Malcolm Owens
plunged in 3 yards in the OT and ended the OT with an
Interception.
Ava Bears (3-1) outlasted the Salem
Tigers (2-2) 13-7 in OT in a South Central Association Game. The
win pushes the Bears into a first place tie in the conference.
The win felt especially nice for the Bears since Salem spanked
them last year 40-0.
The Maryville Spoofhounds (3-1)
edged the Smithville Warriors (2-2) 22-21 in OT. This sets the
table for the Spoofhounds taking on league leader, Cameron
Dragons (4-0) this week (check our 4x4 Pick-em on page 1.
YOU want some high scores and
wild games continue blog
Wild, wild
games...
...900 yards offense, 15 touchdowns
but a defensive play is the key as Camdenton (3-1) outlasts
Joplin(3-1) 55-48 in regulation ! After tying the game at
48 late in the 4th, Shane Hardman picked off an Eagle pass and
raced 29 yards as the Lakers took their first lead of the night
with the INT. Laker running back, Jacob Dinos rushed 23 times
for 298 with three TD runs of 70, 68, 58 yards. Dinos has just
returned to action so Camdenton is now at full strength.
Usually if a team has a running back
rush for 336 yards and five TD's, you'd think that the game
ended up as a win. Not so here...Daniel Lindemann hung up those
credentials but the Troy Trojans fell in a heartbreaker 46-45 to
FT Zumwalt South. Troy actually crossed the goal line 7
times to the Bulldogs 6 touchdowns but a South FG and three X-pt
fails for Troy led to this zany score.
Another Zumwalt school was involved in
a wild win...Ft Zumwalt West. The Jags (3-1) trailed 31-13 in
the 3rd to Howell North (2-2) when QB David Washko took over.
The Jags scored four straight touchdowns as Washko scored three
times and threw for the 4th score. FT Z West won this wild one
41-38.
Other notes
and teams around the state of MO football...
Park Hill (3-1) surprised many with
its 20-11 win over previously unbeaten LIberty Bluejays.
Liberty, class 6, had rolled to a 3-0 mark, outscoring their
opponents 121-15 in their first 3 games. Park Hill, class 5 and
coached by Coach Greg Reynolds, raised their record in this
non-conference battle in KC area.
More shock waves were felt in KC area
when St Joseph-Central beat Blue Springs South 35-28. In this
Suburban Big 7 game, the host Indians knocked off the favored
Jags to jumble up the league standings.
Quietly 4-0 while being overshadowed
by Hazelwood Central and West, the Riverview Gardens could
easily be 6-0 when they face Rock Bridge, Haz Cen, Haz West and
McCluer North in their final four games...ugh. Riverview crushed
62-0 this week.
Expecting to drop off considerably
after graduating a boat-load of seniors last year, the Union
Wildcats are at it again. Losing the first two games to larger
schools, Union is now 2-0 in Four Rivers competition after
beating Hermann 51-14 on Friday. Union will face Helias this
week in another top level non-league game.
Rolla (4-0), known for the punishing
run game, used the pass late in the game to pull away from a
fired-up Parkview team 43-26. The really good teams are usually
balanced enough to use pass or run as they need it.
Cardinal Ritter continues to pummel
opponents as they handled Lutheran St. Charles 60-14 in AAA
conference game. The Lions are averaging 45+ ppg as they hold
onto a little noticed 4-0 mark.
METRO-EAST NOTES ...
Cahokia may be the best team in the
Metro East. The Comanches outscored Marion 17-0 in the 1st
quarter on the way to a 30-14 win. Cahokia QB, Patrick Ivy now
has 10 TD strikes including one to James Hunt (verbal to Mizzou).
Undefeated Carbondale is on tap this weekend !
Others like East St Louis as the best
team. Their supporters argue that ESL hasn't lost in Illinois
yet in 09. This week ESL (2-2)romped past Edwardsville 48-15.
Star running back Courtney Molton crossed the goal line three
times raising his total to nine of the season.
Collinsville QB Austin Hail had a
rough game. O'Fallon recorded 7 sacks on the way to an easy 40-7
over the Kahoks. Defensie Ends John Bouquet and Tivon Taylor
combined for all the sacks. Eric Lewis, returned for the
Panthers at running back and scored his first touchdown of the
year.
Speaking of returning from injury,
Civic Memorial QB Zach Tobin led his team to a 14-7 halftime
lead at Triad in his first game of 09. He was returning from a
hand injury suffered in a hockey game. The Knights rallied for a
41-22 victory. Nevertheless, Tobin completed 21 passes for 323
yards in the losing cause.
