The curtain raises on many Baseball District Tournaments this coming Saturday, May 15. But, some teams had the chance to "send a message" last week.

At Chaffe, Andrew Terhune cleared the bases with a double to right field. This was the key hit of the Chaffee 5-3 win over Oran. The Red Devils raised their record to 11-7 with the win behind ace, Andrew Dooley.  Dooley outdueled Frosh phenom, Cody Moore of the Eagles in this well played game. Oran takes a 13-7 record into the District seeding meeting. Look for the rematch around district title time.

Seeded #2 in their own tournament and #2 for District  behind the N. Calloway Thunderbirds (15-6) just didn't sit too well with the Fulton Hornets. The Hornets (11-6) walloped the Thunderbirds 7-1 in the Championship game of the Fulton Tournament. Wilson Christensen tossed a one-hitter and Cameron Krull's three hits (including a round tripper) was all the offense that the Hornets needed for the win. Stay tuned for the District play.

TEAMS SPRINTING TO THE SEASON FINALE.....

The Rock Bridge Bruins (17-2) traveled to Francis Howell on Saturday night and pounded out an 11-7 win over the Vikings. Max Byers hit two over the boards for the Bruins and knocked home six runs in the win. Ryan Phillips (5-0) stayed unblemished on the year on the mound as he allowed three runs in five innings.

In the ABC Conference, Lutheran South (16-7)has grabbed first place after a 4-1 win over Lutheran North (14-8). The Lancers have now won seven of their last eight games including a thrilling 1-0 shutout of Westminster Christian Academy.  Listen this exciting replay on www.prepcasts.com John Auble is the ace on the mound with a 7-1 personal w-l record. His sparkling 1.13 ERA is 43+ innings leads the Lancer staff. Mike Krumm, hitting .426 has been a very strong #2 hurler with a 4-2, 2.73 ERA. Kaleb Schumer (.455) and Ben Eckrich (.400) are other .400+ hitters for South.

The Sturgeon Bulldogs (11-2) were led by Garret Kelly on the mound and at the plate in the 5-2 win over Higbee. Kelly smashed a 3-run HR, had 9 strikeouts, just 2 walks and 6 hits in the win. The Bulldogs are ranked #4 in Class 1 and looked primed for District.

The Hazelwood Central Hawks (17-5)moved into a tie for first place in the Suburban North with a 7-1 victory over the Hazelwood West Wildcats(14-8). The win avenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats and placed each team with a 12-2 conference mark. Matt Dezort, David Goering and Reggie Seay each had two hits in the Hawk win. Haz Central has now won ten of their last eleven games!

The Harrisburg Bulldogs chalked up two more wins this week and look anxiously for District with their glossy 10-4 record. Keegan Petersen struck out 12 and surrendered only 3 hits in the Bulldog 10-0 five inning win over the California Pintos. Hitting stars in this game were Zach Beringer (grand slam) and Austin Heuer who was 3 for 3 with two RBI's.

Going 9-0 in the South Central AA Conference, the Brentwood Eagles (12-5) have won five of their last six games. The last win was a 12-11 slugfest over Valley Park. Ryan Marshall (.535) and Kevin Smith (.519)are the leading hitters for the Eagles.

Festus (17-6) downed Windsor(16-8) 16-15 on Saturday. Windsor fell behind early 6-2 after 1 inning, 13-9 after 3 innings but kept working hard. The Owls took a 15-13 lead into the bottom of the 7th. Festus scored 3 to gain the wild winin the final at bat. The hitting stars for the Tigers were Shawn Crump (2 of 4, 5 RBI's and a HR) and Ryan Yuengel (3 of 4, 3RBI's and HR).

In a game with 35 hits, 11 errors, a few walks, John Burroughs (12-6) outlasted the Priory Rebels (5-15) 17-16. JB scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th to take a 17-11 onto the field needing just three more outs for the win. Priory plated five runs and fell just short but provided plenty of anxious moments for the Bombers (very appropriate nickname on this baseball game). Hitting stars filled a galaxy!

PITCHING GEM OF THE WEEK !

Westran's (13-3) Tyler Hunt struck out 16 on route to a 1-0 nail-biter over Atlanta. The only run of the game scored on a sac fly!

RALLY TIME (please turn your hats around!)

The Hickman Kewpies (10-7) scored six runs in the 7th to topple the Jefferson Jays 8-7. The Jays held a 5 run bulge entering the final inning! Neil Hansen blasted a key 3-run double and Jonathon Litteken’s 2-run single were the key blows for the Kewpies.

Trailing 10-7 as the 7th inning began, Monroe City had a 3 run walk off home run to send them home an 11-10 victor over Knox County. The hero was Shane Williams in this see-saw game. William's shot just kept carrying. The left fielder drifted back on the ball and thought that he had it gauged but (like the pink bunny), it just kept going and going.

Shhhh...it's a secret !

Salisbury is still unranked even after hanging up a 10-0 win over Slater. The Panthers are now 14-0! Austin Springer threw the 2-hitter and hung up 11 K's in the victory. This Class 2 team has really been a secret in 2010!!
