April 2
Despite
some chilly, rainy days, MO high school baseball has been in action for
two weeks now. Let’s take a quick look at some teams who’ve
been out of the starting blocks very quickly in the first two weeks….
…Jefferson City Jays are 5-0 with impressive wins over Ft Z West,
Troy and Holt. This team has tremendous speed while being almost perfect
in the field. The OF have caught up to many balls in the gap, off the end
of the bat that often fall in for hits. Their big tournament is this weekend!
…Eureka (5-0) – returned from Florida tanned, rested and 3-0. Late this week the Wildcats knocked off perennial power Lafayette 10-4 one night and the next night came from behind in a thrilling game to beat Northwest 7-4 in 8 innings. Click hear to hear the replay of this game that saw Eureka down 3-0 after 5 innings!
…Ozark Tigers (6-1) are opening eyes after smashing Claremore, OK 12-2 in 5 innings.
…Some experts thought Blue Springs South was a year away, not any longer ! After edging the defending district Champion, Oak Park 2-1 in a great early season game.
…Edwardsville from the tough Southwestern Conference is 6-0. Teams that will push them in conference play are Belleville East (5-1), Alton (5-1) and Bell West (4-1)
…Some unbeaten teams under the radar are the Windsor Owls (4-0), Borgia Knights (5-0) and Priory Rebels (5-0). The schedule of these teams will soon ramp upward.
….New Bloomfield won the Fatima Tournament by defeating the host school 5-3 as they indicate a strong unit in 06.
…One of the Final Four Class 4 teams of 2005, the Mehlville Panthers (5-0) have been slugging the ball all around the park during these opening weeks.
….Class 2 Powerhouse Mansfield (4-1) challenges much larger schools during their regular season and yet show a very impressive record to this point.
…St Dominic Crusadors (6-1) booming bats are being heard all around the AAA conference. Only the Dragons of St Marys were able to silence the Crusadors in a 5-0 shutout victory.
….Kennett is off and flying to a 5-0 record including a big win over Notre Dame.
… Zumwalt North (3-0) in the GAC-North has many tough games on the horizon. Meanwhile, in the GAC-South, the Troy Trojans are sporting a 6-2 record at this early junction of the season.
