We’re
into championship weekends now. Two weekends ago was Swimming, this past
weekend the exciting wrestling championships were held in Mizzou Arena.
Some views from behind the arm-lock position….
…Once again, Oak Park carries on their storied tradition and walked
off the mats with yet another State Title ! A whopping 267.5 points ran
away with the championship. Northmen state champs were Mac Bailey (103),Scott
O’Donnell—his 3rd consecutive title, Dylan Joiner (135), Zach
Bailey (140) became only the 9th four time champion is MSHSAA history, Shane
Nay (his 2nd straight title) at 145. Congrats to the entire Northmen team!
…Some other great wrestlers ended their highly successful careers
without taking home the big hardward this year. Jimmy Pepper (135-Seckman)
finished 2nd this year after 5th & 4th in earlier trips to the finals.
Wes Vilda (215-CBC) was the 4th place finisher after winning the title as
a sophomore and finished 2nd last year.
….What about Joe Yust (Seneca) who won his 3rd straight title and
now has won 120 straight matches in high school competition !
…4 hours of MSHSAA state finals from last Saturday maybe heard on

Now
to the hardcourt…
…in a follow up of an earlier story in this blog. The National Federation
has sanctioned the new record set by Meadow Heights of 36-3 point baskets.
Seven different players scored with Michael Collier leading the way with
8-3 balls. It breaks the record of Alexandria Juanita Valley, PA High who
had 34 3-pointers. Amazingly, Alexandria shot 94 --3 point attempts in their
record setting performance. 94 attempts in a high school game—WOW!
The more we learn about this record the funnier it seems!
…The Jackson Indians are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Holding
onto an 18-7 record, they are seeded 4th in the 4 team district 1, Class
5 at Cape Central!
…The Republic Lady Tigers (23-2) are poised for a long run to State
this year!
…Since girls teams often get overlooked, let’s take a look at
some other girls teams that could finish their season in Mizzou Arena are(in
no particular order)—Class 2, District 10 sees the Blue Eye Bulldogs
and the Crane (18-6) Pirates squaring off for the District Title. That winner
will tangle with the Norwood Pirates (20-4) from District 9. The Exeter
Tigers (22-1) should handle chores in Class 1, District 14. Liberal Bulldogs
(20-3) class 2, district 12. The powerful Skyline Tigers (23-2) are picked
to win the Osceola district 13 Class 2.
…Here’s an oddity, in class 1, district 2, there are only 2
girls teams competing! Oran or Delta will win one game for this title.
