Some basketball mid-season views across the state……
…yes---a big man does make a difference—
6-10 Will Bogan returned to action for Bell City and led them to the SCAA Tournament championship over Puxico 73-58. Bogan dropped in 24 points and grabbed 16 boards as he recorded a double-double
….significant personal performances….
Meadow Heights Panthers (11-5) led by 30 points from Terry Wayne (including 6-treys) dropped Scott City (9-9) 78-71.
….Adam Knollmeyer also hung up a double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds as he led the Linn Wildcats (14-3) to a big win over the Blair Oaks Falcons (11-5) 50-40
….refusing charity!
Cape Central played a very strong game but fell to the Poplar Bluff Mules 72-56. Cape missed 16 free throws throughout this tough game and was 11 of 25 in the key 4th quarter.
…crystal ball time!
It’s early but here’s some Feb 1 picks for some of the teams that will make it to Columbia in March…boys-- Vashon Wolverines, Williard, Rockhurst, Bell City; girls teams who have some successful veteran coaches who have been there before— Jefferson City Jays (Doug Light) , Metro (Gary Glasscock)
…you want points ???
How about this score from last week---Cleveland NJROTC 92 Construction Center 90. There were no overtime quarters! Construction Center only had 5 players score!
…Yogi said it—“It ain’t over til it’s over”
Mehlville Lady Panthers trailed the Zumwalt South Bulldogs 43-37 at the end of the 3rd. The highly ranked Panthers of Ed Feibig outscored the ranked Bulldogs 23-7 in the final stanza to win going away 60-50.
… DeSmet Spartans have been in one close game after the other this season. Recently, the Spartans lost in 2-OT to Troy, lost in OT to Jeff City, beat Parkway West in 2-OT in Ameritime Tournament, the next night lost to the Collinsville Kahoks 43-42 and lost to Hazelwood Central Hawks on the 3rd night of the tourney 52-47 after holding a 36-29 lead through three quarters. The well drilled, methodical Spartans of Bob Steiner seem to love these nail biters!
...Bouncing back
New Haven Shamrocks suffered their first loss 36-34 to the Linn Wildcats. The next game saw the Shamrocks rock Chamois Pirates 65-45 to get back in the wining column!
