School Football in January?
The NFL sponsors the Global Junior Football Championships annually. The
tenth edition was held in the SilverDome in Detroit last weekend. Prepcasts
announcers Bernie Schaefer and Bob Ryan announced the Bronze Medal Round.
The round-robin games between Mexico, Japan and Germany. It was refreshing
to see the effort, skill and athleticism of these talented football teams.

Some basketball mid-season views across the state……
…yes---a big man does make a difference—
6-10 Will Bogan returned to action for Bell City and led them to the SCAA
Tournament championship over Puxico 73-58. Bogan dropped in 24 points and
grabbed 16 boards as he recorded a double-double
….significant personal performances….
Meadow Heights Panthers (11-5) led by 30 points from Terry Wayne (including
6-treys) dropped Scott City (9-9) 78-71.
….Adam Knollmeyer also hung up a double-double with 26 points and
13 rebounds as he led the Linn Wildcats (14-3) to a big win over the Blair
Oaks Falcons (11-5) 50-40
….refusing charity!
Cape Central played a very strong game but fell to the Poplar Bluff Mules
72-56. Cape missed 16 free throws throughout this tough game and was 11
of 25 in the key 4th quarter.

It’s early but here’s some Feb 1 picks for some of the teams
that will make it to Columbia in March…boys-- Vashon Wolverines, Williard,
Rockhurst, Bell City; girls teams who have some successful veteran coaches
who have been there before— Jefferson City Jays (Doug Light) , Metro

How about this score from last week---Cleveland NJROTC 92 Construction Center
90. There were no overtime quarters! Construction Center only had 5 players
score!
…Yogi said it—“It ain’t over til it’s over”
Mehlville Lady Panthers trailed the Zumwalt South Bulldogs 43-37 at the
end of the 3rd. The highly ranked Panthers of Ed Feibig outscored the ranked
Bulldogs 23-7 in the final stanza to win going away 60-50.
… DeSmet Spartans have been in one close game after the other this
season. Recently, the Spartans lost in 2-OT to Troy, lost in OT to Jeff
City, beat Parkway West in 2-OT in Ameritime Tournament, the next night
lost to the Collinsville Kahoks 43-42 and lost to Hazelwood Central Hawks
on the 3rd night of the tourney 52-47 after holding a 36-29 lead through
three quarters. The well drilled, methodical Spartans of Bob Steiner seem
to love these nail biters!
...Bouncing back
New Haven Shamrocks suffered their first loss 36-34 to the Linn Wildcats.
The next game saw the Shamrocks rock Chamois Pirates 65-45 to get back in
the wining column!
