June 19th
Flag Day Week…..
Running Hard!
In a sport that has minimal media coverage. Congratulations to the SLUH
Jr. Billikens for their class 4 Track Championship. Coach Jim Linhares,
long time cross country coach, has taken over the TRACK reins just 2 years
ago. The Jr. Bills have catapulted immediately into the highest level of
competition during these couple years. Sprinters Paul Chaney, Stephen Simmons
and Ronnie Wingo filled an area that was often a void in the past –
points in short sprints and relay.
Moving
on down the Block
Just as the television show of the 70’s, it’s not the Jeffersons
moving down the block, it’s Ted LaPage. After a very successful stint
at Blair Oaks, LaPage will assume the Football Position at Jefferson City
High this fall. Located just a couple miles apart geographically, this is
a huge leap in many ways. The once proud program of Pete Adkins has struggled
in recent years and expect results, big results in a hurry! Best of Luck
to Coach LaPage!
Waving
Goodbye!
Usually we focus on the new coaches at a school (see note above), let’s
mention a few of the very successful coaches who have “moved on”
for a variety of reasons. Coach John Bacon (Farmington Football), Randy
Kriewall (Kirkwood Boys Basketball), Don Maurer (MICDS Boys basketball),
Matt Keutzer (CBC Volleyball), Byron Hagler (Hillcrest Baseball) Tony Primeau
(Ft Zumwalt South baseball), Helen Buckley (Nerinx Hall volleyball), will
leave their Head coaching positions. We salute them for their contributions
to high school Athletics! Next time we’ll check out some other coaching
moves around the area and STATE!
Coach Byron Hagler will be interviewed in the next few days and his Talking with the Legend Interview will air later this summer on Prepcasts!
