August 2005 --
Pre-football 2005
Kickoff looms on the horizon for the 05 season, some quick hitters for you.
In Prepcasts 1st game of the year, we’ll see Jason Ford of Althoff. He follows a long line of superior Crusader running backs under Coach Glenn Schott. Ford scored 16 TD and rushed for over 1700 yards as a junior! He was under the radar last year! He won’t sneak up on any one now!
Another running back who is dazzling his teammates in summer workouts is Todd Washington of the McCluer North Stars. Competing in the Class 5 Championship game last year seems to fuel the efforts of this multi talented performer!
Often the MCC is thought of as a “slow” league. Not this year, Munir Prince of DeSmet along with Paul Cheney, Stephen Simmons and Willie Shipp of SLUH can run with any speed merchants of any league.
The Mehlville program will pay a price for the loss of long time assistant Coach Mike Mooney. His energy, expertise and experience were of the highest level.
Coach Jake Parent continued his summer policy of bringing his SM Dragons together for a 3-4 day “overnighter” to raise the spirit and camaraderie of his ball club. This bonding has led to some very successful records in recent seasons.
The Kirkwood Pioneers have looked very sharp on each side of the ball in the “dog days” of August. Their blinding speed, amazing aggression and ability to hit will take them a long way this year as they are still smarting from their upset defeat to the Jr Bills last year.
We’ll see how these teams react to their new coaches—Clayton Greyhounds, St Charles Pirates, Montgomery County Wildcats in the first few weeks of the season.
