High school baseball is turning the corner into the "serious" part of the season. After a month of games, teams have settled into their starting lineups, best hurlers, situational players, etc. As a result, look for the scores to tighten up in conference and tournament games.

Some random baseball thoughts…

….Jeff Sargent (Howell) remains unbeaten as a high school pitcher ! What a feat ! Of course it helps that Howell annually fields a very strong team behind Coach Tony Perkins.

….MICDS & Burroughs are both pointing towards that district championship game. They better be careful, many teams (ST Charles, Westminster, Clayton, Ladue) in that district are capable of knocking them off. These top ranked teams will need to field sharply behind their #2 and #3 pitchers in the early rounds.

….Phil Kendall has the Orchard Farm Eagles baseball team flying high these days. They're looking forward to district and beyond in this banner year !

…SLUH will coast into sectionals against the winner of Chaminade/Kirkwood game.

…Class 4, district 4 is incredible - Lafayette, Marquette, Parkway South & Parkway West. Then, the winner will most likely tangle with Vianney in the sectionals.

….Pattonville & DeSmet will have more at stake than just pool play in the Ballwin Tournament. Each team will be working hard to gain a win and use that to their advantage in the seeding meeting of District #8 (coming up the following week). Ditto the Harrisonville-O'Hara game in Kearney Tournament this weekend.

….the inclement weather of late April may have stymied the progress of some teams. The indoor work of each team will become more crucial in these final weeks of the regular season.

…will the athletes of St Vincent's be fully charged by Districts ? The long basketball run to the State Championship postponed their baseball until much later than most of their opponents. We'll wait to see if it affected their play in mid-May.

…Seckmann travels south for District 1 competition and will face teams from outside of ST. Louis area. It will be interesting to see how they fare.

..Is Trinity a "sleeper" in district 5, Class 5 action ? Maybe ?

….Lutheran South will have to beat Sikeston to make it to Columbia.
