Rob Kodner Blog – Week 6 – Northwest / Poplar Bluff

The 2-3 Northwest Lions traveled to southern Missouri to take on the 2-3 Poplar Bluff Mules.  On Northwest’s second possession, they had a punt blocked and the Mules ran it into the end zone for a quick 7-0 score.  The Lions had difficulty in trying to move the ball, as Poplar Bluff was stacking the line of scrimmage and virtually eliminating the usually potent lion running attack.  The Mules, however were able to run the ball with their star running back Bi Nguyen carrying the ball 6 times for 90 yards on their next possession that ended with a touchdown and Poplar Bluff was up 14-0.  They added another touchdown just before the half and went into the break up 21-0.  On Northwest’s first possession of the second half, Brendan Hawks took a hand-off and sprinted 68 yards for a touchdown cutting the lead to 21-7.  That would be as close as the Lions would get as the Mules answered with a touchdown of their own and went into the 4th period up 28-7.  In the final period, the Mules played ball control and ran out the clock to secure the victory and making it a joyous homecoming.

Lion’s Choice 212 Athlete of the game was awarded to Northwest’s Brendan Hawks who carried the ball 8 times for 91 yards and a touchdown, he also caught a pass for 21 yards for a total of 112 yards of combined offense –
