Best Game of the Week…
Ok….a 48-47 game is terrific in itself BUT when the winner (winless in 4 games) knocks off an unbeaten team that makes the game really unbelievable. Glendale (now 1-4) shocked the Kickapoo Chiefs (4-1) with the win. New Falcon Coach, Mike Mauk wins his 1st game in MO after chalking up over 220 wins in Ohio. His 5 wideout formation had QB Mike Alexander going 57 of 82 (yes…82 passes!!) for 582 and 5 TD’s. Taking the lead with 1:49 remaining, the Falcons had their breath taken away when the Chiefs returned a punt for the distance but….a penalty nullified the score and Glendale rejoiced at the buzzer.
Btw..Mike Mauk is the father of Mizzou starting QB, Matty Mauk
Other Games that you wished you been there……
….From goat to hero (in about 2 minutes of game time)…In a game between two 3-1 teams, the momentum see-sawed back and forth in the waning minutes of the game. Chillicothe fell behind 10-0 in 1st half, rallied to take a 23-16 with only about 1:30 left in the game, Bishop LeBlond of St. Joseph, MO scored but missed the extra point conversion so they still trailed the Hornets 23-22. It appeared to be over! After forcing a quick 3 & out, the Golden Eagles had a huge gainer to put themselves in FG position. Kicker T.L. Romesburg then redeemed himself by booting the winning 26 yard FG. The Golden Eagles push their record to 4-1.
…trailing 14-0 at half, the Summit Falcons (3-2) exploded on the opening KO return of the 2nd half as Keecie Powell went 86 yards for the score. This ignited the Falcons who scored 21 3rd quarter points to hold a 21-20 lead. The Ritenour Huskies (3-2) regained the lead as Seyvon Kenney hauled in a pass with 5:42 left in the game. The Huskies took a safety as the clock expired to hold on for the 26-23 win. I don’t ever recall ANY games ending in a safety!!! Click here for the replay …
….Only Five points separates the Salem Tigers (2-3) from an unbeaten season! After dropping a 23-21 game to the Ava Bears on Friday, Salem has lost its other games by scores of 14-12 to Thayer and 21-20 to Reeds Springs. Behind, but always challenging, the Tigers just couldn’t get the final “stop” to take the ball away from the Bears late in the game as Ava ran out the clock.
…Hillcrest scored 20 unanswered points in the last 6:09 of their game against Lebanon to eke out a 34-28 win. Eric Savage hauled in the winning throw from Brady Petry.
…in a defensive tussle, the Sikeston Bulldogs held on for 14-13 win over the Farmington Knights. Farmington had a 60 yard TD nullified in the 2nd half as both offenses were stymied much of the 2nd half. The fans just kept waiting for that “one big play”.
…What was that 3:28 minute explosion?
It was the Westminster Wildcats scoring FOUR TD’s in the 4th quarter in just 3:28 to rally to beat Lutheran South 35-21. The Wildcats trailed 21-7 entering 4th quarter!
“Gutsiest” Call of the night…
Scoring a TD with 1:35 left in game to make it 27-28, Ft Zumwalt East against rival, Ft Zumwalt North, went for the win on the 2-point conversion. The run failed but our hats off to the Lions for their call.
What kind of score is this?
Lawson 7 Lathrop 0….a 7-0 game in 2014? What’s next…helmets without face masks?
…in 2012 the Affton Cougars went 1-9. After their 49-16 win over Perryville, the Cougars are 5-0 in 2014. Congrats to Coach Dan Oliver and the Cougars for “making it happen”
