The 6th ranked Class 3 Ste. Genevieve Dragons (9-1) rushed for 444 yards
Friday night on their way to their 8th straight victory, 49-6, over New
Madrid County Central (1-9), in an opening round District contest.
Sr. running backs Anthony Roe and Austin Brewer each scored 3 touchdowns
as the Dragons offensive line dominated the Eagles with their split back
veer attack. Ste. Gen threw the ball only 3 times for 30 yards.
After fumbling the ball away on the first possession, the Eagles coughed
it right back, and Brewer made a spectacular 58 yard trip to the end
zone on the next play with 4 nifty cutback moves. The extra point was
missed and Ste. Gen’s lead was 6-0 with 9:45 to go in the 1st.
Brewer went 35 yards to the house on the next possession following the
2nd of 4 NMCC turnovers. Roe ran in the 2 point conversion to make it
14-0 at 8:18 mark. The Dragons would tack on another TD before the
quarter ended on a 5 play 58 yard drive and a 14 yard Roe run to make it
20-0 and still 3:23 left in the quarter as the point again was missed.
Ste. Gen continued to add on at the 9:52 mark of the 2nd as Roe scored
his 2nd on a 17 yard run to finish off a 6 play, 50 yard drive. Roe’s 2
point conversion run made it 28-0.
The onslaught continued with a 5 play, 69 yard drive and a 20 yard trip
to the end zone for Brewer. The Dalton Giesler first of 3 extra points
made it 35-0 with 5:35 left in the half. The Dragons added two more TD’s
before the half ended, following a pair of Gabe Greminger picks, as Roe
scored from the 1 following a 64 yard gallop, and Wyatt Hahn tacked on a
1 yard run to make it 49-0 with 1:28 left in the half.
The Eagles scored the only TD of the 2nd half on a 12 play, 59 yard
drive, as Eddie Granberry caught a 25 yard pass from QB Brock Blakely.
Brewer had 11 carries for 189 yards and Roe added 11 more for 145 yards.
The Dragons had 382 yards in the first half alone, with 352 on the
ground. QB Wyatt Lalumandier was 1-3 for 30 yards. NMCC finished with 51
plays for 150 yards. Javarcus Word had 50 yards on 22 carries.
