prepcasts ste gen logoSte. Genevieve (8-1) won their seventh straight game and clinched the
top seed in the Class 3 District 1 playoffs Friday night as they
survived a late scare in a 42-35 victory over Caruthersville (5-4).

The 8th ranked Dragons had 461 yards of total offense, 297 on the
ground. Jr. QB Wyatt Lalumandier was 12-17 for 164 yards, 151 of those
in the first half. Sr. Anthony Roe scampered 17 times for 180 yards,
including a 63 yard TD, and caught 3 passes for 75 yards with 2 of those
going for touchdowns of 13 and 36 yards from Lalumandier.

The Dragons went 99 yards with their first possession on 11 plays and
Roe caught his first TD of the night with 5:01 left in the opening
quarter. Dalton Giesler added his first of 7 extra points for a 7-0

Ste. Gen took a 14-0 lead early in quarter 2 on an 8 play, 76 yard
drive, with Sr. Wyatt Hahn scoring from the 3.

The Tigers, who had 361 yards of total offense, 203 rushing and 158
through the air, battled back to tie the game at 14. Sr. QB Peyton
Faulkner culminated a 6 play, 54 yard drive, with a 4 yard run. Terrius
Rodgers added his first of 5 extra points to make it 14-7 with 6:47 to
play in the half. Caruthersville came right back with a 7 play, 75 yard
drive, and Roderick Jones went 20 yards for the tying TD with 1:48 to go
in the half.

The Dragons countered just 28 seconds later as Lalumandier hit Roe for
the 36 yarder and a 21-14 halftime lead.

Ste. Gen came out of the gate in the 2nd half trying to put it away as
they scored on their first possession with Austin Brewer culminating a 6
play, 55 yard drive, on an 8 yard TD run and a 28-14 game
and 9:48 to go in the third. Brewer carried the ball 16 times on the
night for 106 yards and 2 TD’s.

After getting the ball back on a punt, the Dragons went 86 yards in 4
plays with Roe getting his third TD of the night on a 63 yard burst up
the middle for a what appeared to be a commanding 35-14 lead and 6:06
left in the quarter. Roe finished with 255 yards of total offense.

The Tigers weren’t going quietly into the frosty night, though. After
recovering a SG fumble at the Dragons 20, it took 3 plays for Faulkner
to find Terrance Raspberry for the TD and a 35-21 game with 10:15
remaining in the game.

The gritty Tigers cut it to 35-28 with 4:05 left as they travelled 71
yards in 8 plays and Faulkner tallied from the 2.

Ste. Gen then went 3 and out and had to punt the ball away. It was
muffed by Demarco Slaughter and recovered by Brandon Hinson at the
C’ville 25. SG scored 5 plays later on a Brewer 2 yard run with :56
remaining and it was 42-28.

Back came Caruthersville 6 plays and 55 yards and Faulkner hit Raspberry
for an 8 yard TD with only :11 left.

The Tigers then recovered an onside kick at their own 49 and got off 2
plays, one of which was a dropped pass, and the Dragons survived.

Faulkner was 8-18 for 158 yards and 2 TD’s as Raspberry caught 7 of
those for 155 and both TD’s. The Tigers ran for 203 yards on 45 carries,
led by Faulkner’s 22 for 109.
