YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHO’S 0-2!!!
The Rockhurst Hawklets, a long time STATE powerhouse program, fell to Bentonville, Arkansas 24-21 and saw their record drop to 0-2 for the 2013 season. This was bitter pill to swallow for the Hawklets who led 13-0 at one point of the game. Bentonville scored the next 24 point points prior to Rockhurst scoring in the 4th quarter. Rockhurst dropped a 19-14 game to E.St. Louis in week 1. I’m sure that there aren’t any tears for the Hawklets falling in consecutive weekends. And….anyone who’s counting them out of a deep run in MSHSAA post-season games, just doesn’t realize the level of competition the the Hawklets have faced in the first 2 weeks. Wouldn’t it be nice to see Rockhurst play other strong programs from the East Side of the State?
Scores that are hard to believe!
How about Lee Summit crunching Kearney 77-55! 132 points in the game… WOW! The Tigers raced ahead to 35-0 and 49-10 leads before the Bulldogs elevated their offense. No word on the total yardage…they are probably still calculating it J Brock Broughton scored five TD’s for the Bulldogs in the losing effort. Kearney scored 52 points in their season opening victory of N.KC. It’s hard to imagine that another team in the Suburban Blue Conference has ALSO scored over 100 points in the first 2 weeks! Grandview-KC has scored 103 points while piling up their two wins!
49 was the magic number for Van Horn! Tony Winningham passed 45 yards to Isaiah Gotsis for a touchdown with 49 seconds remaining and Michael Payne kicked the winning extra point as the Van Horn Eagles outlasted Wyandotte, KS 49-48!! The Eagles beat Polo 27-7 in the opening week.
The Ozark Tigers Football team had the whole town buzzing in week 1 as they scored 55 points in a 55-42 win over ST Joe-Benton. This week, they went even further! Ozark scored on the final play of the game (ball was snapped at 1.8 seconds) as Chase Ramsdell hauled in the winning TD pass to give the Tigers a 66-64 win! Yes…a total of 130 points scored in 1 game! The Tigers are averaging over 60ppg in the first 2 weeks!
TIED at 25-25!
After 50 years of heated, emotional competition, the Valle Catholic Warriors and Ste. Genevieve Dragons have each won 25 games in the battle of Ste Genevieve. Valle won the latest edition of the “bragging right” of Ste Gen as they posted 36-28 victory. The game wasn’t decided until the waning moments of the game as the Dragons twice had scoring opportunities in the final 2 minutes of the game but were unable to cross the goal line
