Parkway West 20, University City 0 –
The final line read the Longhorns 20, the Lions zero. But the game was closer than what the scoreboard indicated on Senior Day at University City.
Saturday afternoon’s tilt between the two Suburban South rivals featured an offensive struggle until late in the second half.
The Longhorns struck first when sophomore running back Nick Lewis dove over the goal line for the 7-0 lead.
The contest remained a one-score affair at halftime.
However, Longhorns’ junior quarterback Austin Sisk connected with junior wide receiver Emanuel Whiteside for a 65-yard touchdown to make it a 14-0 lead for the visitors.
The Lions had their chances offensively, but turnovers nullified any score. Twice the Lions had the ball inside the red zone. They fumbled on a muffed quarterback-center exchange and turned the ball over on downs after failing to convert on fourth down.
Lewis added another touchdown, his second of the game, to cap the game, 20-0.
Parkway West (2-6, 2-4) will host Seckman in its regular-season finale next Friday, while the Lions (1-7, 1-5) will host Kirkwood next Thursday afternoon. Click here for the game
