Vianney Football Wins on the Road, Now Coming Home

SchulteThe Vianney Griffins kicked off their 2014 season in very impressive fashion with a 42-13 victory vs Francis Howell North. The Griffins used a balanced attack on both sides of the ball to pull away from the Knights. Junior quarterback Nick Voorhees led the way with 256 total yards passing and running and 4 TD’s. Senior Nolan Snyder also had a big night with 3 touchdowns (2 receiving, and a 25 yd interception return). Senior captains and top prospects Jordon Hardwick and Kyle Markway also had big nights on both sides of the ball for the Griffins. Elijah Keely had a standout performance for the Knights as he scored both TD’s, a 3 yd TD run and a 92 yd kickoff return. It wasn’t nearly enough as the Griffins pulled away for a 42-13 victory.
The scoring started in the 1st quarter for the Griffins on a 3rd down play,  it was a 24 yd TD pass from Nick Voorhees to Jordon Hardwick. Voorhees continued his great play in the 2nd quarter with a perfect ball down the sideline to Nolan Snyder for a 40 yd TD pass with 4:55 left in the 1st half. The Knights anwered to pull within a touchdown at half with a 3 yd Td run by Elijah Keely with 1:30 left in the half. Just 54 seconds into the second half Nolan Snyder picked off a Konner Fitzgerald and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. Griffins led 20-7 after the extra point failed. Another Nick Voorhees TD pass to Nolan Snyder and a successsful 2 pt conversion run by  Jordon Hardwick pushed the lead to  28-7 with 5:10 left in the 3rd quarter. Senior RB Elijah Keely tried to keep Howell North in the game as he returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a TD cutting the lead to 28-13. Both teams are back in action on Friday night. The Knights will travel to Fort Zumwalt East to take on the Lions. While the Griffins will have their home opener  vs Jackson. Not only are the Griffins looking for revenge over a team that ended their season last year in the playoffs, but they will also have the grand opening of their facility upgrades at Don Heeb Field.
