WEMO Football still in the game

damonIn the KCMW game of the week, the Cass-Midway Vikings marched on to the state quarter finals romping past #7 Jasper 35-13.  The Vikes took the opening kick 77 yards for a TD and the early 7-0 lead.  They would roll out 35 unanswered through the first three quarters to get a running clock before the Eagles would respond with two fourth quarter scores.  Midway got a 14-0 first quarter lead after Tyler Wright hit Tanner Yahnig for a 42 yard score.  A 9 yard race by Yahnig pushed the half-time edge to 21-0.  Two more third quarter runs featured Wright from 1 yard out, and Luke Boyer scampering 41 yards.  Conor Hayes, who took the opening kick back, nailed all five PAT’s for Midway.  The Eagles would score on a six yard run by Levi Brown and a 9 yard pass from Matt Stump to Blake Jefferies.  They converted one of two conversions as they saw their season conclude at 9-2. Midway, #2 ranked in state, advanced to the quarter finals where they will meet Skyline next week.  The Vikings move to 12-0 and a looming semi-final showdown with #1 Valle Catholic.  Conor Hayes was the Player of the Game.
The only other remaining WEMO team, the Osceola Indians, hosted rival Skyline and saw a back-and-forth battle tied at 21 through three quarters.  No team led by more than a TD until late.  Skyline scored first and they traded scores until Osceola took their first lead at 21-14.  A Tiger TD would tie it at half and remain there until the fourth quarter when the Tigers would take a lead with ten minutes to go and then ice the game with a final TD some three minutes later.  The #4 ranked Indians season finishes at 10-2, as the Tigers move to the quarter finals and will host #2 Midway on Friday night, a game that will be heard on KCMW.
Next week, the network will also feature Class 4 football as the undefeated Webb City Cardinals seek a four peat as they travel to meet one-loss Harrisonville and the Wildcats.
