WEMO Week 9 In Review

The final week of the regular season saw mostly blowouts as WEMO teams battled area squads in classes 1 and 2.  In the Prepcasts-KCMW game of the week, the Osceola Indians remained white-hot as they blasted the visiting Class 2 Pleasant Hope Pirates 43-0 scoring early and often, though methodical enough offensively to not run up the score.  Driston Self, the junior QB ranked sixth in the entire state for scoring TD’s racked up two more, as did the Sonic Drive-In Player of the Game, senior running back Trevor Dean.  The Indians looked primed as they enter districts as the #2 seed and continue moving up the state rankings to #7.  They have expectations of a date with the top seeded Cass-Midway Vikings in a rematch should they hold on according to seeding. Those same Vikings hosted Class 2 doormat, the Sherwood Marksmen, incidentally providing Pleasant Hope their only season victory, the first week of the year.  Midway rolled out early and blew Sherwood away to solidify their #3 state ranking, 52-6.  Drexel remains #4 in the district shoring up their ability to host a district game as they blasted visiting Lone Jack 64-0 in a runaway.  The Bobcats will host the Adrian Blackhawks in a rematch of one of the WEMO’s game of the year candidates in the first round of districts.  Adrian hosted Class 2 El Dorado Springs and jumped out to an early lead before see-sawing the remainder of the game.  The closing score showed Adrian on top of the Bulldogs, 34-20. Rich Hill hosted Cole Camp in the other close game featuring a WEMO team but fell to the visitors 37-14.  Appleton City went on the road with a winnable game facing the Lincoln Cardinals, still working on building an 11-man program.  Lincoln crushed the Dogs in a bit of a stunner, 66-13.  The final WEMO team, the Archie Whirlwinds remain without a victory as they played gracious hosts to the Liberal Bulldogs, falling at home in the regular season finale, 53-18. Districts open up Thursday and feature the following matchups. #8 Archie Whirlwinds @ #1 Cass-Midway Vikings (the Prepcasts-KCMW feature game of the night) – #5 Adrian Blackhawks @ #4 Drexel Bobcats – #6 Rich Hill Tigers @ #3 Skyline Tigers – #7 Appleton City Bulldogs @ #2 Osceola Indians … In a bonus match on Friday night, Prepcasts-KCMW will broadcast Class 6 football as the #6 Ray-Pec Panthers travel to Liberty to take on the #3 seeded Blue Jays.
