hazelwood central logo CBC ritterClick here for the game – It was billed as a Heavyweight battle between two top 10 ranked teams in Class 6. After a 12 round slug fest, Hazelwood Central prevailed with a 26-24 win Saturday afternoon over CBC.  The win clinched the District 2 Championship for Central and a spot in the State semifinals.  Hazelwood Central, who never trailed in the game, was led by Quarterback Mike Glass. He rushed 22 times for 79 yards and found the end zone twice. “It’s just amazing what he can do right now. He can hurt you in all phases,” Central Head Coach Van Vanatta said. Through the wind and rain, Glass only threw for 76 yards. Central running back Kevin Batt had a nice day on the ground as well rushing for 121 yards on 33 carries and two touchdowns.With the loss, CBC finished their season at 9-3. They were paced by running back Calen Taylor, who rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns, but Sophomore quarterback Blake Charlton struggled after going 7 of 21 for 34 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. The interception, which was by Central defensive back Matt Quarles led to Central’s second score of the day.  Click here for the game – Hazelwood Central (12-0) will take on District 3 Champion Columbia Rock Bridge (7-5) on Friday night in Columbia. The winner will advance to the State Championship game which will be played on Nov. 29th at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.
