New Ste. Gen. Football Coach is 1-0 by Frank Kirchmer

prepcasts ste gen logoSte. Genevieve’s Ken Weik was victorious in his first game as the
Dragons new head coach Friday night. The former Crystal City HC,
replacing the recently retired, Hall of Fame 26 year head man, Bob
Stolzer, watched his Dragons win at Dexter (0-1), 42-7.

Ste. Gen scored first in the penalty-filled game just 56 seconds into
the contest. Sophomore OLB Luke Brewster picked off the Bearcats QB
Ethan Stevens first play from scrimmage and returned it to the Dexter
33. Three plays later, Sr. Anthony Roe, coming off an ACL injury that
sidelined him for the entire 2014 season, scored from the 17. Dalton
Giesler kicked the first of his 5 extra points for a 7-0 lead.

Roe added a second TD following a bad snap on a punt attempt, from the
2, for a 14-0 advantage with 9:29 to go in the half. Roe suffered a
hamstring injury on defense and did not return.

Dexter scored their only TD on a 14 play, penalty aided, 73 yard drive
late in the half as Gavin White ran it in from the 3 with 1:54 to go,
cutting the lead to 14-7.

The Dragons came right back on a 9 play, 65 yard drive, as Jr. QB Wyatt
Lalumandier hit Brewster from 18 yards out for a touchdown with only :16
remaining in the half and a 21-7 halftime lead. Lalumandier was 7-14 for
82 yards and 2 TD’s and had 13 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown as
the Dragons totaled an even 300 yards of offense on 54 plays.

Ste. Gen added 3 more second half scores. Lalumandier scampered 29 yards
on a midline-veer option keeper with 2:12 remaining in the 3rd. Brewster
caught his 2nd TD from 35 yards out on the first play of the 4th quarter
and Camden Roe added the final tally on a 1 yard run 4 minutes later.
Brewster had 5 catches for 63 yards.

Ste. Gen held Dexter to 163 yards, 83 through the air and 80 rushing, on
50 plays.

The Dragons will host Valle Catholic in their annual Green-While rivalry
game Friday night. The Warriors beat St. Vincent in their opener, 62-0,
for their 31st straight win over 3 seasons. The 2-time defending Class 1
State Champions, were led by Sr. QB, Connor Basler, who was 12-14 for
243 yards and 5 TD’s.

The game will be audio streamed live on Prepcasts Ste. Genevieve Friday
night at 7:00.
